Carran's Puphood: Part 3

Year 1 - The Apprenticeship Ceremony Carran was sure he’d entered some strange world where no one ran out of food and no one, not even the Omegas were beaten. However, he’d noticed that everyone except the Warriors and other important individuals seemed really passive, almost floating through their day. He didn’t understand it and when he thought about questioning Deign, the question was instantly gone from his head, like it’d been wiped from this thoughts completely. And, to make it even more strange, he never found the urge to ask her about the passiveness of these Aurals again. When he found himself wanting to, th

Carran PoA - Path of Heart

Wailing, incessant wailing. Carran tried not to be irritated, but Deign had a few spring litters to deal with and nearly all of them were sick. The spring had been wet and rainy, not good for tiny babies, but he’d been out training the night before and wanted nothing more than to sleep. “Carran, I need your help,” Deign said. He pulled himself up and helped her make sure the pups were cared for. “Where’s Akela?” Carran asked as a pup wiped its snot on his foreleg. “She’s trying to gather supplies in this godforsaken rain,” Deign muttered, trying to get the mewling pup to swallow an herb packet. “It gross,” it squeaked. “I know, but in order to get big and strong you have to eat it. Look at Carran, he’s a fine young apprentice and he takes his medicine.” The pup looked over at Carran. “I wanna be an appwentice.” “Then you have to take the medicine,” Deign said gently. She managed to get the pups to chew the herbs and their coughing and mewling stopped for the time being.

Untested Power: Last Lesson

~Rook's Puphood, Year 2, Part 4 Rook stayed away from the densite for a couple days, feeling kind of uneasy and caged. He wanted to leave. He was ready to leave. He didn’t have to worry about protecting, killing, and feeling if he was on his own again. However, he knew he needed to continue his Energy Mastering. Clarin was looking for him when he made his way back through freshly fallen snow. “There you are, pup, I was worried you’d run off.” Rook felt bad for worrying him. He could see it in Clarin’s expression and stepped forward to brush against Clarin’s side before turning back around. “I sti

Carran's Apprenticeship - Guarding the Den

The first snow had fallen. Carran slipped out of the healers den that morning and stretched. He’d been doing well on patrol and Ravencall had hinted that they were nearly done with what they needed to know. The icy air swirled around him and for a moment, he longed to go back in and curl into his nest, but he wanted to get in a quick patrol around the den center for practice. He’d been learning everyone’s scents. Following where they led until he got to a point where he wasn’t allowed to go. Carran hadn’t disobeyed the rules again, even though Scarling and his buddies had. Some of the higher ranked Aurals knew and no one did anything about it. He was sure Jinx knew too. A footstep alerted him to someone’s presence and he turned his head. “I do know,” Jinx said as he approached. Carran crouched a little, not liking his thoughts being eavesdropped on. Jinx looked completely healthy. It’d taken a few weeks, but Carran suddenly understood that his time training with Watch and

Anima Clan - Digging 1

The ground was wet and muddy, making the trekking tough, but Bergemont knew that the rewards could be great if they just kept going. She glanced down the steep mountain path behind her, seeing her sister Lamia and then Luken. What bothered her was that Rhys was nowhere in sight. The youngest member of their clan tended to run off after interesting things. Lamia approached and Bergemont expressed her concern. “Where is Rhys?” Lamia quickly looked back. “By the Gods, she was just behind us,” Lamia grumbled. Luken paused as well, sniffing the air, but it was blowing their scent away from them, Rhys’s too. They d

Hunter Kenoskay Hunting #1

Kenoskay had been wandering through Esen forest for the past week or so, staying alongside Kimon River. His luck had been about average so far. He had yet to encounter any other Aurals, so that was good. The down side of his luck was in the fact that he had caught very little prey. Keno knew that he needed to find more food soon in order to keep up his strength. With this in mind, along with his rumbling stomach, he decided it was time to hunt again. With a shake of his head and renewed confidence, he set off towards the bank of the river. Not long after he began his search, he encountered the fresh scent of a red fox. With a wolfish smirk
